Nidhogg is a fencing game, in which you have to defeat several opponents, human or AI, depending on the mode chosen. In this regard, it is up to you to decide whether you prefer playing alone against the machine or fighting other game mates over the network.

Despite the game’s simplistic graphics reminding us of older games, Nighogg’s developers have succeeded in mimicking actual fencing moves, something seldom seen in other games. The fighting scenarios are varied: there are dissolving clouds, stairs and conveyor belts.

The rules are simple: you need to clear your way out of the level by defeating opponents. The length of each match and that of the game itself may vary as it all depends on the players’ skills. However, the game is never boring, even less in multiplayer mode.

The control of your character is simple so there is not much new to learn. By the way, the game comes with a tutorial, which unfortunately will not help you with the most difficult part. In this respect, there is a combination of positions and moves you need to master if you expect to beat the opponents. In fact, you will need to make a lot of quick decisions, activate your reflexes and combine tactics with strategy.

In a nutshell, Nidhogg will definitely be appealing if you like sword combats. I must alert you that the graphics are disappointing, which is compensated with very realistic animation.
